The African wild dog is Southern Africa’s most endangered large carnivore species. Filmed in the Save Conservancy in Zimbabwe, this series documents a team of dedicated researchers as they follow several wild dog packs; tracking their movements, monitoring denning habits, and recording their hunting techniques. The camera crew use motorbikes, equipped with motorized gimbal camera mounts enabling them to film the dogs from a different perspective and literally run with the pack as they hunt. Aerial drones also allow the viewers a bird’s-eye view of the dogs as they go about their hunting techniques.
The African wildlife conservation team is headed by Dr. Rosemary Groom, a dedicated and passionate ecologist and conservationist. Having grown up in Zimbabwe, Rosemary has devoted her life to the protection of African wildlife species. She is assisted by Jess Watermeyer, a wildlife enthusiast focusing on the scientific research of conservation. We join this dedicated team out in the field on a daily basis, monitoring and tracking the African wild dog in particular, but also observing other big carnivore species as they cross paths with the dogs.
