Lions - The Hunt For Survival

PLAY

This film follows the lives of 3 lionesses from different parts of the African continent. How are their challenges different in each environment and what tactics do they employ to come out on top?

Lions are without doubt the most feared, most iconic predator in Africa. But a lion is not just a lion. Each is very different to the other. Their hunting grounds and available prey provide many challenges to survival. Each has to respond specifically to them.

Mara lives in Kenya’s vast Masaai Mara National Park. Every year she’s faced with a wildebeest stampede of gigantic proportions. The migration provides an enormous supply of food, but for the rest of the year it’s famine. This instability makes it hard to start a family. For that reason Mara’s pride hasn’t bred for over 2 years and is vulnerable to a takeover. Moremi lives in the watery depths of the Okavango Delta. It’s not typical cat territory. She’s faced with plenty of water to negotiate and although there is plenty of prey they tend to be large and aggressive. In most instances, if she doesn’t hit her target she will be seriously injured or even killed. Matiti meanwhile spends her life roaming the short grass plains of Tanzania. This is a major challenge for a predator that can only run fast for two hundred yards. It is an open ocean of grass. How will she find the concealment for the classic lion ambush? Where does she hide her cubs?

In this soap opera of lion dramas, we move back and forth between scenarios.
