Uncharted Amazon with Ash Dykes

PLAY

British explorer Ash Dykes and his team battle the untamed jungles of Suriname in a daring adventure in one of the world’s most remote wildernesses.

Nestled on the north coast of South America, Suriname is the world’s greenest country. 94% of its land is dense jungle. It has the highest proportion of forest cover in the world. For wildlife, it’s a paradise; for humans, it’s one of the most inhospitable places on earth. In this remarkable series, Welsh explorer Ash Dykes and a small team are ?own into the far reaches of its interior – and left to make their escape.

The aim of the expedition is to shine a light on this remote corner of the world, by traversing its jungle, climbing its highest peaks and kayaking, from source to ocean, the the largely unnavigated Coppename River: a journey that would be another record-breaking achievement for Ash.

The forest here is a pristine environment that’s over 50 million years old, but it’s now under threat from both legal and illegal logging. For Ash and his team, though, the threat comes from the environment itself. Bullet ants and deadly snakes are never far away, and jaguars present an unfamiliar danger. Accidents and exhaustion and are constant risks, and with the perils of hunting and foraging for food, this leads to a terrifying yet exhilarating adventure.
