A kayaking tour guide and his family rescue entangled seals along Namibia’s Skeleton Coast, evolving into a unique environmental organization tackling a global plastic crisis.

Cutting the Line follows the story of Naude Dreyer, a kayaking tour guide based in Walvis Bay, Namibia, who starts rescuing seals entangled in fishing line, packaging straps and other ocean pollution, ultimately saving them from an agonising death.

When his wife, Katja, discovers what he is doing, they start an environmental organisation to raise awareness about the devastating effect of plastic pollution by documenting the rescues and sharing them through social media.

The response they get from around the world is overwhelming and the organisation quickly evolves into a full-time operation. Despite this, the Dreyers are acutely aware that they face a daunting challenge, specifically the formidable threat posed by the world’s reliance on plastic; the fishing industry; and the magnitude of the global plastic crisis. This is put into stark relief and illustrated by their successes and failures in the field, and the contrasting emotions the rescues bring out between hope and despair.
