Science and Technology

Titans of Defense

For as long as humans have known conflict, technology has been the driver of success in war.

Combat moved from simple tools like sticks and stones, to early axes and spears, to more advanced armour and swords. Then came chariots, siege machines, and the bow. With the invention of gunpowder, the world saw the rapid creation of guns, bombs and rocketry. Today the level of sophisticated military hardware is astounding. From drones that operate autonomously thousands of miles away, to satellites that cover every corner of the globe, to massive aircraft carriers, that are as huge as cities and carry their own colossal machines, to planes that transport other vehicles, and nuclear submarines that can stay undetected for months in the depths of the ocean. War is an undesirable outcome, but, when necessary, the biggest, smartest, strongest, most technically proficient and innovative wins the day. These are some of the world’s most impressive war machines.
