Epic Animal Migrations - Patagonia

PLAY

Experience the epic migrations and struggles of Patagonia's wildlife in the face of changing seasons.

The sweeping landscapes of Patagonia provide a dramatic and harsh environment for a large variety of species. But these hardy residents are at the mercy of the seasons. They have no choice but to migrate across icy peaks, flooded wetlands and frozen oceans – hazardous journeys which only the strongest will survive.

Patagonia is a land of absolute contrast… of calm and gale… of light and dark… of freeze and thaw. It is home to the largest ice sheet outside of the poles, and migrations are driven primarily by temperature shifts and the need to breed. Staying put when the seasons change means certain death in this unpredictable environment.

In winter, guanaco herds trek through Torres del Paine, while pumas hunt the vulnerable. Southern right whales and sea lions converge at Valdes for breeding, alongside vast penguin colonies at Punta Tombo. Migratory birds journey thousands of miles to feast in Patagonia's wetlands before returning to the Arctic.

Summer brings life to Valdivian forests with hummingbirds, while orcas prey on sea lions, watched by Andean condors soaring overhead. This pristine habitat teems with life, but the specter of global warming looms.

Through vivid storytelling, the film captures Patagonia's essence and the resilience of its wildlife in the face of environmental threats.
