The city of Berlin is in a state of panic. A serial killer has just claimed their twenty-third victim, and the police are under pressure to make an arrest. When Maximilian Rapp confesses to the murders, the killer s reign of terror appears to be over. But CID detective Tara Schöll isn’t convinced; the arrest was too easy, and some facts just aren’t adding up. Soon after, Schöll and her police partner uncover evidence that proves Rapp couldn’t be responsible for all 23 of the murders.
To avoid a public scandal, Schöll must now reopen the case and find the real killer without anyone outside the police department finding out. To make matters more complicated, Rapp has offered to help in the investigation. It soon becomes clear that he has a unique perspective on the crimes, and a suspicious ability to spot even the smallest of clues.
